It was the most beautiful journey through the whole Serbia. While getting to the viewpoint of Uvac Canyon, amazing views were stretching around us. The truth is that from the start point of the route, I was enchanted with the beauty and wilderness of this place. It is a nature’s masterpiece.
The charm of this place, give the curving meanders of the river Uvac with beautiful green color of crystal clear water. Meanders of the river resemble a maze and in some places turns at an angle of 270 degrees. Due to many years of the river punching trough the limestone rock, many natural convolutions are made.
The best views are from viewpoint called ‘Molitva’ which is located at 1247 meters above sea level (in English it means ’Prayer’). A hiking trail is simple and it extends high above the meanders of the river. The length of trail from the camp to the viewpoint is about 4.5 kilometers, and it takes about two hours. Remember to prepare comfortable walking shoes, pack some water and sandwiches. During summer time, bring a hat and sun protection, because there is almost no shade during the walk.
Uvac Canyon isn’t popular attraction among tourists. Fortunately, it still remains untouched by mass tourism. I enjoyed the silent and no crowd there. We didn’t met anybody there, only a shepherd who lives on the way to the viewpoint.
Uvac Special Nature Reserve
Uvac Canyon is a part of Uvac Special Nature Reserve. The status of a ‘special nature reserve’ the territory around the river received thanks to unique plant and animal species that can be encountered there. At some points you can notice the most famous residents of this place – Griffon vulture, with a wingspan of 3 meters. Only twenty years ago, vultures were almost extinct, but thanks to organized care and feeding, their number increased and now it has about 300.
